The Plan:
Students will graph our “GREAT” DBQ results and wrap-up our tour of Ancient Greece this week. Watch for a quiz on Friday, 22 before we begin our study of Ancient Rome.
What is Happening:
Monday: Students are working independently learning "The Culture of Ancient Greece" and "Greek Philosophy and History", from textbook pages 154-173. Some students began the work last week while others were finishing their Alexander papers. All students have cloze notes attached to the appropriate notebook pages and are completing the notes as they read the text. After reading they will complete a processing activity on the left-hand side of the notebook. To support section 5.1, students will write an illustrated summary of a news article I provied in class. To process section 5.2, students will create a foldable for the Reading Strategy (textbook page 168) catagorizing the basic philosophies of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. They will also answer Section Review questions #3 and #6 from textbook page 173. Students will use Tuesday's class period and flex time to finish both sections. Notebooks are due Wednesday.
Tuesday: Workday :)
Wednesday: Students read textbook pages 182-186, "The Spread of Greek Culture". We utilized our Social Studies notebooks to write constructed response answers to two Reading Check questions and created an orginial illustration to correspond with the text. Illustrations are always color and include an appropriate caption. We also watched a video clip to learn more about the mathmatical contributions of Pythagoras and Archimedes . Story of One Pythagoras
Fifth Period Class: Students in this class have not yet completed the constructed response questions, but have created a fabulous caption for The Agora picture provided in class. Captions should include at least two vocabulary words from the chapter with context clues to help the reader guess why the person in the picture is historically important. Thursday: Students used "The Agora" picture provided in class as inspiration for a caption or story with at least two vocabulary words and context clues. Students shared their creations with other students in class. Students will be able to use their textbooks on the test tomorrow. If we do have a "Snow Day" on Friday, the test will be completed on Monday.
