Social Studies:
Students will learn our third, and final Channel One note-taking strategy for first semester. We will also learn how to use a highly effective study system
we lovingly refer to as PQR2ST+ then jump back in time as we begin The First
Civilizations.
Homeroom: We had a short class due to today's assembly.
What is Happening:Homeroom: We had a short class due to today's assembly.
Monday: We learned how to use Strategy #3 to take notes during Channel One this week. We also continued to practice our geography skills as we identified important bodies of water and the Ancient River Civilizations.
Tuesday: Students discussed effective time and organization strategies with Mrs. Tasset. They created a sample weekly schedule to help them analyze how they currently budget their time. The remainder of the class time was spent completing our Early Civilizations: Places and People survey of Unit 1.
Wednesday: Students used a card sort to help them learn how to use PQR2ST+ study system. They began to create a foldable describing each of the steps of the system. Time will be provided in class tomorrow to finish the description.
Thursday: Students finished their PQR2ST+ foldable on Social Studies Notebook page 14. (Second hour will have time on Friday to complete their notes.) They also used our two-column notes to collect information from the brief video, Otzi: The Ice Man. Students then answered five questions using their notes.
Friday: Students completed the Unit 1 pretest. The pretest is formatted exactly like all the upcoming Social Studies chapter tests we will have this year. Each test is approximately 30 questions, is worth 100 points, and students will have the entire class period to complete the assessment. I learned many students have great test-taking skills and several others already have knowledge about Ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt and Israel! I hope students learned how important vocabulary mastery will be to their success this year.
