Homeroom: Spirit Wear Friday!!
What is Happening:
Monday: We reviewed how to access the History Online study helps and the electronic textbook. I sent home a hardcopy of the directions off this BLOG for 6th and 7th periods. First and second class periods can pick up a copy tomorrow.
Students worked in groups to analyze two Paleolithic cave paintings and used a close reading of their text to learn why scientists think early humans created the paintings. If you were absent, or did not get finished with the activity, please checkout the pictures for the night or make arrangements to stay a few minutes after school to finish before Friday. We will have a notebook check on Friday.
We discussed Otzi as an example of a Neolithic person. Students learned the term revolution and completed their Vocabulary Words List for the terms domesticate and specialization. The vocabulary word lists look fantastic and we only had about 12 students who did not have theirs completed!
We will spend tomorrow's class period using our study system to "Neolithic Times" pages 13-15 and putting the big picture together. Students will take a short ten question quiz (five matching, five multiple choice) quiz at the end of class.

Tuesday: Students did a good job of remembering their vocabulary words for today's reading. They worked as a whole class to practice using our study system and learn about the Neolithic Times. A quick student vote resulted in a BrianPop summary of the Neolithic Farming Revolution before our quiz. Notebook check will be Friday.
Wednesday: Students worked together using a card sort activity to compare and contrast the Stone Ages. They began to analyze the effects of the Neolithic Farming Revolution. The results of this close reading of the text is being used to create a foldable in their notebooks that will be finished in class tomorrow. Notebook check Friday.
Thursday: We Students were given the whole hour to work on completing their Effects of Farming foldable, cleaning up their notebook for tomorrow's check, and working on their next group of vocabulary words. A few students have choosen to use the workday to learn the importance of time management. The good news is that the seven vocabualry words from Section 1.2 Mesopotamian Civilization are not due until Monday. We have had several absent students this week, therefore the recent Early Humans quiz grades are posted on E-school+ but will not be returned until next week to allow for make-up work.
Friday: Students worked with a partner to learn about "Mesopotamian Civilization" with their PQR2ST+ notes. I began notebook checks but, dispite our best efforts, will neeed to complete the check next week. Section 1.2 vocabulary words list is due Monday, Sept. 30th (civilization thru empire).
